On day 3 of the Paralympics, the Ukrainian team are 4th in the medals table, with 22 medals in total: 9 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals.

3 gold medals were added today: Yuriy Tsaruk in the T35 100m, Vasyl Kovalchuk in the 10m air rifle, and Andriy Kalyna in the SB8 100m breaststroke. Oksana Khrul added a silver in the SB7 100m breaststroke, while bronzes were added by Inna Stryzhak (already a long jump silver medallist) in the T38 100m and Oleksiy Fedyna in the S13 50m freestyle.

Other highlights have included wins for several Ukrainian teams in their rowing heats, a 9-0 trouncing of the USA in the men's 7-a-side football and a convincing win over GB by the women's sitting volleyball team. The Ukrainian team have had spectacular success in the judo, with three men's gold medals and two bronzes for the women. The swimmers have also been impressive, with 4 golds (2 for Nataliya Prologaieva), 4 silvers and 2 bronzes.

There has also been controversy after a 'scoring error'  led to Maria Pomazan's gold for discus being downgraded to a silver and gold being awarded to the Chinese competitor. The Ukrainian Paralympic Committe lodged a complaint, which was rejected, but Valeriy Sushkevych, Head of the committee says that he will be taking this further.

We wish the team further success!
