UWC President Ewhen Czolij recieves a traditional Ukrainian welcome during the opening ceremony

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), of which the AUGB is a member organisation, has taken part in an International Congress -  the third of its kind - organised by the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations based in Lviv.

The three-day Congress, which was attended by over 400 representatives from 28 countries and all regions of Ukraine, considered the present and future role of the Ukrainian diaspora in helping Ukraine to establish herself internationally.  The meeting was chaired by Irina Klyuchkovska.

UWC President Ewhen Czolij addressed the meeting on the subject of the activities of the Ukrainian World Congress in defending the national interests of the Ukrainian nation and the development of links between Ukrainians worldwide.  Click here to read the full text of his speech and here for the full text of the UWC’s press release – in Ukrainian only.)

The meeting resolved to contact the Cabinet of Ministers and Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine to (1) introduce legislation supporting Ukrainians worldwide, (2) continue holding annual parliamentary hearings on the question of the worldwide Ukrainian community, (3) develop, approve and implement the state programme of cooperation with Ukrainians living beyond Ukraine’s borders for the period 2011-2015 and (4) make provision in the state budget to provide sufficient funding to further develop cooperation/links between Ukraine and the worldwide Ukrainian community.
