A snapshot of Monday evening's event attended by VIPs and the press

The 4th “Great Sculpture Exhibition  2010”, organised by the National Centre “Ukrainian House” and the “ART-Ukraine” magazine opened in “Ukrainian House” on Khreshchatyk Steet in Kyiv on 2 March.  Each year the organisers aim to exhibit works of world-renowned masters mixed with works of contemporary Ukrainian sculptors.  This year’s event is no different!

·         25 sculptures of Ukrainian women by Gregor Kruk from the collection of the AUGB’s Shevchenko Library and Archive in London

·         sculptures of Demetriy Chyrapus from the private collection of Ihor Voronov

·         an exhibition of works of nine different sculptors under the banner of “Wooden Sculptures at the Turn of the Century”.

·         40 presentational exhibitions of contemporary Ukrainian sculptors

·         special projects of leading Ukrainian galleries and curators.

As reported previously, we are extremely pleased to be able to contribute to this highly prestigious event.  “Ukrainian House” is without doubt Ukraine’s top art gallery and we are delighted that our initiative received support from both the British Embassy in Kyiv and the Ukrainian Embassy in London.

AUGB’s President, CEO and the curator of the Shevchenko Library and Archive, Zenko Lastowiecki, Fedir Kurlak and Ludmila Pekarska, addressed both a press conference followed by a private viewing attended by several hundred VIPs on Monday evening.  They also gave interviews to a host of national TV stations (eg. 1+1, STB, inter, CITI, 5 kanal, Rada, 24 News...), newspapers and magazines and met with many VIP’s, including the British Ambassador to Ukraine, Leigh Turner.

The event received massive publicity on TV and in newspapers (eg.  see links to two of yesterday's national newspapers, “Den” and “Ukraina Moloda”).

Our very special thanks go to the highly professional leadership of “Ukrainian House”, headed by Natalia Zabolotna, for helping to make Gregor Kruk’s lifelong dream come true.  The 2010 “Great Sculpture Exhibition” is trully fantastic!

It will remain open until 14 March.

NOTE:  We are currently in the process of obtaining professional photographs taken on Monday evening and hope to post a slideshow on our homepage in the next few days.
