During a meeting of the AUGB’s Board of Directors held yesterday evening, the decision (taken on 17 March 2020) on temporary closure of all AUGB premises to prevent the spread of the coronavirus was reviewed and the position remains unchanged.

The AUGB will continue to follow further advice from the Government on when we are likely to see a relaxation of the current lockdown position.

In the present circumstances, the Board has decided to postpone the 75th AUGB AGM, which was due to take place on 6 June at AUGB Huddersfield Branch. Two possible alternative dates for the AGM – in August/September – and the possibility of holding the AGM via video-conference will now be investigated.

The Board noted that eight Branches were unable to hold their AGMs due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and agreed that, wherever possible, these Branches could consider holding their AGM via video-conference.

Branches have been and will continue to be encouraged to hold Branch committee meetings via video conference which will provide them with a good opportunity of keeping in touch and dealing with any issues that arise locally. The same facility is being made available to local fraternal branch organisations (‘bratni ustanovy’).

Due to the coronavirus outbreak and the closure of schools, the Board also decided to cancel this year’s Holodomor Essay Prize. The next competition will be launched in March/April 2021.
