AUGB DEMANDS REMOVAL OF TRIDENT FROM POLICE LIST

20.01.20

The AUGB has today written to the Senior National Coordinator of the Counter Terrorism Policing unit, Dean Haydon, after it was reveaved over the weekend that the Ukrainian national coat of arms, the Trident/Tryzub, was included in a list alongside signs or symbols belonging to extremist groups.

The letter demands that the one thousand year old national emblem is removed from the list and that an unreserved apology is issued to all those of Ukrainian heritage living and working in the UK for the inference that the Ukrainian National coat of arms is a sign of extremism/terrorism.

The full text of the letter can be viewed here.  It has also been copied to the Home Secretary, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK and to the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Ukraine.
