We are extremely saddened to announce that Zenko Lastowiecki passed away late on 3 January 2020.

An Economics Honours graduate, Member of the Institute of Purchase and Supply who held a Diploma in Management and worked in senior management positions at RWE Npower and RWE Technology (including overseas in the USA, Germany, Holland and Romania), Zenko was best known to us all as a very active and loyal member of the Ukrainian community.

Well-read, knowledgeable, articulate and thoughtful, he was never afraid to speak his mind whilst always remaining friendly and respectful towards everyone.

Born in Bradford in 1960, he was chair of the local branch of the Ukrainian Youth Association (UYA) and then, on two separate occasions, the Bradford Branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB). For five years he sat on the UYA’s National Committee.  In 1989 he was elected onto the AUGB’s Board of Directors to serve a two-year term and was then re-elected annually from 1999 onwards, serving as AUGB President from 2007-2016, always with the same dedicated aim of developing the AUGB and ensuring its secure future for next generations.

In November 2018 he justly received the highest Award of the Ukrainian World Congress – the Medal of St Volodymyr – for his many years of committed service within the Ukrainian community in the UK.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Paula, son Myroslav and to all of his family and friends.

May his soul Rest in Peace!
