Alexander Hug, Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine, gave a fascinating insight last night at AUGB’s Central Office into the work of his organisation, with particular emphasis on Eastern Ukraine.

This was not only a fabulous opportunity to hear his presentation and answers on a wide-ranging array of audience questions, but Mr Hug and his Executive Officer Pierre Day also then continued their conversations with the audience late into the evening.

Though the casualty levels from the war in Eastern Ukraine are as high as they are, there can be little doubt that these would be significantly greater if it were not for the tireless work of the OSCE SMM’s representatives who put their own lives at risk on a daily basis.

The OSCE publishes daily reports on its monitoring of the situation in Eastern Ukraine (and more) and these first-hand unbiased accounts can be read here.

We extend our very best wishes to them in all that they do.
