We were delighted to welcome the Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church (UCC), His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, to AUGB’s Central Office this morning. He was accompanied by the Eparch for Ukrainian Catholics in the UK, Bishop Hlib Lonchyna, Fr. Mykola Matwijiwskyj and deacon Nazariy Yaruniv.

During the 90-minute visit, the Patriarch was given a guided tour of an exhibition of photographs and documents covering the history of AUGB and an exhibition celebrating the works of Ukrainian artists who lived in the UK from 1947 onwards.

He was presented with catalogues from the current ‘Reflecting Artistic Legacy’ and the recent ‘1917-2017 Ukrainian Revolution: Lessons from the Past’ exhibitions, and also three AUGB co-sponsored publications relating to the UK Ukrainian community’s celebration of the millennium of Christianity in Ukraine: ‘Хрестоматія Української Релігійної Літератури’ ‘A Millennium of Christian Culture in Ukraine’ and ‘Пам’ятна книга відзначення Тисячоліття Хрещення України 988-1988’.

Patriarch Sviatoslav expressed his sincere thanks to AUGB and the wider Ukrainian community who worked closely with the Church to preserve, cherish and promote Ukraine and its cultural heritage with such dedication, and continue to do so today.

We wish him a successful stay in the UK as he sets out on his pastoral visits around the country. Next week he will attend a major conference in London ahead of leading a Pontifical Divine Liturgy in Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.
