155 Ukrainian Paralympians are in London for the 2012 Paralympic Games - the biggest team that Ukraine has ever fielded.

Ukraine came 4th in the medals table at the Beijing Paralympic Games, with 74 medals in total, 24 of them gold. At an official presentation in Kyiv, ahead of the athletes' departure for London, Valeriy Sushkevych, Head of the Ukrainian Paralympic Committee, emphasised that the Ukrainian Team at the London 2012 Paralympics will be the largest ever since Ukraine’s independence, numbering 155 athletes, who will compete in 12 sports. He is quite clear that the team is there to compete and win! Several articles in the British press have highlighted the strength of the Ukrainian team, in spite of the lack of resources devoted to disabled sport in Ukraine.

Ukraine's swimmers are considered to be particularly strong, with several previous Paralympic and European gold medals, and are highly fancied to win yet more in London.

We wish Ukraine's Paralympians every success at the 2012 Games! Бажаємо успіхів!
