UKRAINIANS PROTEST IN PORTSMOUTH

23.07.12

Ukrainian Ferry workers held a two hour protest over the weekend in Portsmouth to highlight their dissatisfaction over being paid just £2.35 per hour.

Condor Ferries, who employ the Ukrainian crew, said that the that "the situation" was being "distorted for political reasons".  Meanwhile a spokesman for Portsmouth Trades Council, commented that "Condor should pay industry standards for the UK" and added that "it's not an acceptable argument that workers supposedly get paid more than they would back in Ukraine".

Further industrial action is planned.
