We recommend this short report from the First National Channel in Ukraine. It analyses the attempts to destroy the Ukrainian language over the last hundred years, from banning Ukrainian publications and arrests of Ukrainian intellectuals, to huge resettlement programmes, which turned Kharkiv and Donetsk from Ukrainian to Russian-speaking regions.

The report carries interviews with former dissidents who were imprisoned for writing Ukrainian and from the curator of the Museum of Soviet Repression. It demonstrates clearly why language is not only an emotional, but a key political issue.
