UKRAINE'S EURO 2012 CAMPAIGN OVER - BUT DISALLOWED GOAL DID CROSS THE LINE

20.06.12

Rooney goal

The Ukrainian team bowed out of the Euro 2012 championships with a 1-0 defeat to England. Wayne Rooney scored after the ball slipped through Ukraine goalkeeper Pyatov's hands.

The Ukrainian team did not make it easy for England: they fought hard, with 57% possession, 10 corners to England's 6 and more shots on target. A Ukraine goal was disallowed after a clearance by John Terry that replays showed was clearly behind the line. Who knows what might have happened if the goal had been given?

In spite of the disappointment, Ukrainians can be proud of the spirit that the Ukrainian team showed, pressing England right to the end. See match report from the BBC here.

Although the Ukrainian team is out, the Ukrainian people still have an important job to do - to continue being the perfect hosts to the remaining teams and their fans - something we are confident they will do.
