UKRAINE AND RACISM - AMBASSADOR KHANDOGIY LETTER IN THE TIMES

31.05.12

In a letter published in today's issue of The Times, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK acknowledged that there are isolated cases of racism in Ukraine but that these are effectively dealt with by the authorities.

Mr Khandogiy wrote:  "I would also like to assure football fans that the issue of racism in Ukraine is hugely overexaggerated.  Certainly, there are isolated cases of this intolerable behaviour which are effectively dealt with by the authorities on the principle of "zero tolerance". But the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians are tolerant and hospitable people... and Ukraine is probably one of the safest places for travellers of all races."
