YOUNGER MEMBERS CAPTURE THE HEART OF THE LORD MAYOR

Two younger members of the Ukrainian community managed to get an autograph from the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons, at the Christmas Concert held in Manchester last Sunday.  It made his day.

The concert was a resounding success with a full hall with standing room only for those who were late. Among the main guests were Zenko Lastoweicki and his family, the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Mayor and Mayoress of Salford, Mayor and Mayor’s Consort of Bury, Civic Mayor and Consort of Tameside, Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, the local Ukrainian Catholic parish priest, Chairman of the Labour Party, local Councillors, representative from the Disabled Organisation and other distinguished VIPs.

An exceptionally high standard of performances was achieved by Orlyk, Podilya School of Dancing, Plast, Oberih, Troyanda plus Stefan Andruschychyn and his wife Denise. The Concert had a Christmas theme with traditional Ukrainian winter dances or carols and classical music pieces. At the end of the Concert the local chairman, Bohdan Rutkowskyj, made a fresh appeal for funds towards the completion of the Hall and other parts of the Centre.

Guests had the opportunity at a reception afterwards to sample some traditional Ukrainian food and drink whilst meeting with local community leaders.

In summary - a good concert, good reception, a bulging Hall of all ages, good Christmas atmosphere and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day. A downside – not enough parking spaces!
