According to an AFP report released this afternoon, Ukraine's Security Service has said that it has opened a fresh criminal case against Ukraine's former PM, Yulia Tymoshenko.  The charges relate to suspected embezzlement of around $450 million during a period when she presided over the "United Energy Systems of Ukraine" in the 1990's.  If found guilty she could face a jail term of up to 12 years.

Tymoshenko was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment earlier this week at the end of a highly publicised trial which was widely seen as being politically motivated.  The verdict triggered instant reactions from politicians wordwide.

According to the report, this latest criminal case was allegedly opened following complaints filed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.
