TYMOSHENKO TRIAL - THOUGHTS OF UWC PRESIDENT AND US FEDERAL COURT JUDGE

President Yanukovych heads off today for a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Bronislaw Komorowsi, who, according to one diplomat, intends to raise issues surrounding the arrest of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko, co-leader of the Orange Revolution, was arrested on 5 August during a trial in which she faces charges of abusing public office.  The UK, EU and other governments worldwide were quick to react in expressing serious concerns about the arrest.

Last week the World Forum of Ukrainians and Ukrainian World Congress also publicly condenmed the trial and detention of Tymoshenko and questioned the impartiality of the Ukrainian judiciary.

Tymoshenko's trial is widely perceived to be politically motivated.
