On 10 December a delegation from AUGB Bolton Branch comprising Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn, Oksana Jurczyszyn and Petro Hrycaj handed over a “Holodomor recognition and condemnation” petition to the Mayor of Bolton, at the opening of this month’s Town Council meeting.

Executive Member, Councillor Nicholas Peel (Lab), who together with Councillor Frank White (Lab), have liaised with AUGB Bolton Branch to date about the issue, made a statement to the Council by way of information about the petition.  He concluded by putting a question to Executive Member for Human Resources and Diversity, Councillor Mrs Rosa Kay (Lab), who is expected to report back on it during the next Council meeting, which will take place on 25 February 2009.

Councillor Kay’s response was: “This [petition] requires further discussion and the executive will give this full consideration and take the appropriate steps.  It is, however, time it was recognised.”
