INAUGURATION OF APOSTOLIC EXARCH

bishop-hlib-and-patriarch2.jpgThe recently elected Patriarch of the Ukrainian Catholic Church (UCC), Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, led a special service in Central London today to formally inaugurate the new Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainian Catholics in the UK, Bishop Hlib Lonchyna.

The Liturgy and formal proceedings took place at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Mayfair and was attended by the the Papal Nuncio, bishops, priests and laity of the Ukrainian, Belorussian, Roman Catholic and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Churches.

Bishop Hlib Lonchyna is the 5th Apostolic Exarch of the UCC in Great Britain.  In his address he called on everyone's prayers and support to help him in the tasks that lie ahead.

Prior to this appointment, since 2 June 2009, he was Apostolic Administrator “sede vacante” of the Apostolic Exarchate in Great Britain.

The President, First Deputy President and CEO of the AUGB attended the ceremony.
