HERMAN "FULLY SHARES" CONCERNS OVER CLOSURE OF UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE BROADCASTS

18.07.11

In an letter to the Ukrainian World Congress, the deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine, Anna Herman, has emphasised that she "fully shares" the concerns of the UWC regarding the closure of Ukraine's World Service Radio Ukrainian language broadcasts.

Ms Herman wrote that she recently held a personal meeting with the General Director of Ukraine's National Radio, Taras Avrakhov, and that the latter has agreed to reinstate Ukrainian language broadcasts on Ukraine's World Service radio.

The letter comes after the UWC wrote in May to the President of Ukraine, Prime Minister, Chair of the Ukrainian Parliament and the Head of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting in Ukraine expressing grave concern over the decision of the General Director of the National Radio Company of Ukraine to close down the Ukrainian language section of Radio Ukraine International

The AUGB also published its position on the matter at the time.

The service has now been restored.
