RADIO DECISION TO BE REVIEWED

31.05.11

According to a report in Telekrytyka (30 May), the chair of the State Committee for Television and Radio, Yuriy Plaksiuk, has halted the "reorganisation" of the Ukrainian language broadcast's on Ukraine's World Service Radio and has announced the formation of a commission to look at the legality of last week's proposed closure of the Ukrainian language service.

The Ukrainian World Congress had condemned the move to close down the service whilst the AUGB reacted with its position on the matter on this website and wrote separately to the Ukrainian Ambassador in London asking him to confirm that the closure was not sanctioned by the Ukrainian authorities and seeking assurance that Ukrainian language programming will be restored with the same speed as it was withrawn.
