Bishop Hlib Lonchyna visited and blessed the newly built Hall in Manchester last Saturday. He was welcomed at the main door by AUGB Manchester Branch Chair, Wolodymyr Szlachetko, with a traditional Ukrainian greeting of bread and salt. The Bishop was accompanied by Rev. E. Nebesniak and Rev. J. Rij, (who will shortly be departing to London).

Bishop Lonchyna was very impressed with the new building and stressed that the community should care for one another.

Later that evening the first Dance took place in the new hall with people, young and old from all over UK in attendance.  Music was provided by Chorna Roza and the Black Sea Cossacks.  One observer commented that "the ‘zabava’ (dance) was a great success and generated an electric atmosphere".

But the highlight of the evening occurred at 11pm when Danilo Bodnarec, a local member of the Ukrainian Youth Association, won a brand new Fiat Panda in the Grand Raffle Prize Draw. Everyone was delighted by the outcome and that a ‘local boy had made good’.

Most people partied hard into the night and made it one very special occasion. But not the last!

On Sunday Bishop Lonchyna held a meeting with community leaders which was followed by a traditional Easter meal with the whole of the Manchester community.
