Vyshyvka

On Saturday 9 October during their annual conference in Bradford, the Association of Ukrainian Women unveiled their completed embroidery project which was begun in 2008 to coincide with the Association's 60th anniversary.

The banner comprises over 60 separate examples of traditional embroidery from every region of Ukraine, embroidered by Association members from branches all over the country. The embroidery samples are arranged around the Association's logo, embroidered in cross stitch in blue and gold.

Over 70 delegates and guests heard reports of the year's work, including the very successful Mothers' Day project carried out in partnership with the Ukrainian Youth Association in Ukraine, and the latest awards of grants to students in Ukraine who would otherwise not be able to fund their studies and living expenses. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Association's Ukrainian Childrens' Appeal Fund which over the years has provided humanitarian aid for children and families affected by the Chornobyl disaster, helped fund heart surgery for children, provided equipment and medicines for children's hospitals and polyclinics, and provided grants for regional and local charitable projects.
