AMBASSADOR'S BLOG - UKRAINIAN LESSONS #4

Kyiv
24.09.10

September 26 is "Multilingual Blogging Day".  Readers of this blog will know that it's been produced from the start in both English and Ukrainian, so this is a good occasion to express my thanks to the staff in the embassy here who produce such fine translations of my English efforts before publication.

I blogged in January about "Crisis Vocab", and how the Ukrainian phrases I had been learning here in Kyiv evolved over time.  I continue to have regular discussion about the political situation in Russian and Ukrainian with contacts here in Kyiv, and am still finding my vocabulary evolving.  There's much talk at the moment about "defending freedom of the media"; "local elections"; "meeting EU norms"; and "ensuring Ukraine remains a democratic leader in the region".  Does anyone have any other suggestions for useful vocab I should learn?
