Fr. Borys Gudziak, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University

Some six weeks ago we wrote about our meeting in Lviv with the Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU), Fr. Borys Gudziak.  At the time we were also given a tour of the University itself and we noted in our brief report for this website that “the Ukrainian Catholic University's motto of "Be Thyself" is exemplified by its integrity, honesty and spirituality in all that it does.  In a country riven by corruption, this remarkable University is almost like "a country within a country", striving to provide a rounded education for Ukraine's leaders of tomorrow with a commitment to the highest of moral ideals and excellence.”

More recently, on 12 May, we met with Fr. Borys again, this time in London, and on page 2 of this week’s Dumka we feature an extensive interview with him in which he talks frankly about the UCU and the challenges that it faces.

Given the current political climate in Ukraine, it perhaps comes as no surprise – but is nevertheless shocking and extremely worrying - that the Security Service of Ukraine has, this week, paid Fr. Borys a visit which the latter has minuted and released in the form of a Memorandum.

The content is self-explanatory and we strongly recommend that you read it by clicking on the link above and that you also bring this news item to the attention of others.
