The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has reacted angrily to this week's events in Ukraine.

It condemned the Parliamentary ratification of the Kharkiv Agreement and President Yanukovych's remarks in Strasbourg regarding the Holodomor.

Describing Victor Yanukovych's statement on the Holodomor as "illegal", the UWC said that the President of Ukraine had demonstrated his contempt for the millions of innocent victims of genocide against the Ukrainian nation in 1932-1933.

It also reminded averyone that the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine had adopted a law on the Holodomor on 28 November 2006, recognising it as genocide against the Ukrainian nation.

In particular, the UWC pointed out that Article 2 on the 1932-33 Famine in Ukraine states that public denial of the 1932-33 Holodomor in Ukraine... is illegal.

On the issue of the Ukrainian Parliament's decision regarding the Black Sea Fleet, the UWC underlined that it contravened Article 17 of the Constitution of Ukraine (ie no foreign military bases on Ukrainian territory).

The President of the UWC, Evhen Czolij, urged Ukrainian parliamentary deputies to appeal to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to review and overturn the decision..
