CHORNOBYL ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATED

Manchester
26.04.10

A Panakhyda (Memorial) Service was held yesterday at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Manchester to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

The service was attended by members of the Ukrainian community in Manchester and was conducted by Rev. Yaroslav Rij.  To mark the occasion, an icon of the “Chornobyl Madonna” was rested on an additional analoy (“tetrapod”).

The commemoration ended with children from the local Ukrainian Saturday School reciting poems about the world’s worst nuclear disaster.
