RIP! WASYL OLESKIW

18.12.16

2016-12-17-oleskiw-wasyl.jpgWe were very saddened to hear of the death last night of one of the AUGB's longest standing members, Wasyl Oleskiw.

For many years he served on the Board of Directors of the AUGB, Ukrainian Information Service, Ukrainian Publishers and the Religious Society of Saint Sophia, and was a prominent member of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists, becoming its leader (1987-1991) after the death of Yaroslav Stetsko.

He also played a key role within the Ukrainian Millennium Committee, chairing the commission for the placement of a monument to celebrate the Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine.  The statue of St. Volodymyr was unveiled in London's Holland Park area on 29 May 1988 and has since become a focal point for various Ukrainian meetings, gatherings, commemorations and celebrations.

May his soul Rest in Peace! Вічна Йому Пам'ять!

AUGB Board of Directors
