FOREIGN SECRETARY STATEMENT ON THE 2ND ANNIVERSARY OF MH17

19.07.16

Foreign & Commonwealth Office.  The Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, calls for justice to be delivered two years after the tragic loss of lives on flight MH17.

Two years ago, 298 people, including 80 children and 10 British nationals, lost their lives when flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine. A report into the incident was produced last year by investigative authority the Dutch Safety Board, and the UN Security Council Resolution 2166 calls for those responsible to be held to account.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said:

The shooting down of flight MH17 continues to bring great sadness to the families and friends of the 298 victims and, as we mark two years since this tragedy, my thoughts are with everyone affected. The UK Government will continue to provide support to the families of the ten British Nationals who died.

The definitive technical report into the disaster by the Dutch Safety Board reached evidence-based conclusions reinforcing our view that a terrible crime had been committed.

Justice must now be delivered. We continue to support the efforts of the Joint Investigation Team pursuing the criminal investigation which is vital to identifying those responsible and holding them to account.
