AUGB WRITTEN SUBMISSION ON UK-RUSSIA RELATIONS

The AUGB has today made a written submission to the House of Commons Select Committee on Foreign Affairs' inquiry into the UK’s relations with Russia.

The Select Committee rules do not allow us to publish our submission, but we have reiterated our clear support for Ukraine’s democratic development and closer alignment with Europe.

We make the case for sanctions against Russia to be strengthened until it reverses its illegal annexation of Crimea and fulfils all its obligations under the Minsk agreements, including withdrawal of all troops and weapons from Ukraine and full restoration of border control to the Ukrainian government.

Although the Syrian crisis and other global threats require international co-operation, this must not include any weakening of the UK’s full support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, as Ukraine has a right to expect from a signatory to the Budapest Memorandum.
