UKRAINIAN ACTING PRESIDENT DISMISSES FOUR ENVOYS

16.05.14

Acting Ukrainian President Alexandr Turchynov Friday relieved four ambassadors from their duties, the presidential website said.

The interim president decided to sack Alexander Kupchyshyn, ambassador to France, Monaco and UNESCO; Volodymyr Khandogiy, ambassador to the UK; Valery Vasiliev, ambassador to Nigeria and Valery Kirdoda, ambassador to Algeria and Mali, Xinhua reported.

All four had been appointed by ousted president Viktor Yanukovych, who left the country in late February following violent anti-government protests that left over 100 people dead.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the decision to recall the four ambassadors was solely down to them all completing their respective diplomatic terms in office.

Ambassador Khandogiy's replacement has not yet been named.
