Ukraine's Ministry of Justice has wasted no time in posting a reminder that the anti-democratic laws adopted in the Ukrainian Parliamed on 16 January 2014 came into force yesterday.

The Notice appears in Ukrainian only on the Ministry's website and is addressed for the attention of NGO's and separate departments of foreign NGO's.

It says that all such organisations receiving funding or property from abroad and who take part in political activities in Ukraine, have 3 months in which to register as an NGO are required to acquire the status of a citizen's association, which serves as a "foreign agent".

"The name of... (such organisations) shall contain the phrase "public association, which serves as a foreign agent."

Such associations will also be required to renew their registration on a monthly basis by providing details of members/staff within the organisation and information about the amount of money or other property received from foreign sources, planned objectives and planned programme of activities and actual activities.

Organisations failing to register are likely to be banned.

There are also reports that telecommunications companies, internet and mobile phone operators have been advised of what they will be required to do in the event of Martial Law being imposed.  All services will be shut down completely - with the only exception being the telephone number for emergency services.
