A producer at the Biznes TV channel, Tetyana Melnychenko, has written on her Facebook wall that she was sacked over coverage of the Euro-Maydan (mass protests against Ukrainian authorities' decision not to sign an association agreement with the EU (maydan is Ukrainian for square)).

"Friends, this is a dangerous precedent. Today I was sacked from the post of news producer on the Biznes TV channel. The reason is that I included a report about people going to the square to protest against the halting of the Euro-integration process in the bulletin this morning (22 November)," Melnychenko wrote.

"As regards journalistic practice, the bulletin was fully balanced. I have no regrets. I'm not going to try to prove anything to anyone. There is a higher force that sees everything. Sooner or later it is necessary to answer for every decision," she added.

The Biznes TV channel (previously - Ukrainian Business Channel (UBC)) is a specialized information and analytical TV channel for the business community, which was launched in 2007. It is known that MP Hennadiy Vasylyev of the (pro-government) Party of Regions was a shareholder in the TV holding that includes the channels KRT, UBC and the regional cable channels Saturn and Akademiya.

(At 1925 gmt on 23 November, Ukrayinska Pravda quoted a press release by the channel's press service accusing Melnychenko of "irresponsibility" and saying she had been sacked for "ignoring the channel's business format" by including a "politicized report" in the morning news bulletin on 22 November.)
