13.02.13

One of Ukraines most trusted individuals, Cardinal Lubomyr Huzar, will not take part in the Conclave to elect a successor to Pope Benedict XVI who resigned earlier this week.

According to a report posted on Interfax Ukraine, Cardinal Huzar, who himself retired from office as Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in 2011 said that two days prior to the Pope leaving office, he will have reached the age of 80.  "Fortunately, therefore, I will not take part in the election of the Pope. According to legislation, any cardinal, who reaches the age of 80, is not bound to take part in the election of the Pope, although he may be elected", said Cardinal Huzar.
