UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN GREAT BRITAIN ELEVATED TO STATUS OF EPARCHY

loncina.jpgThe Vatican announced today that Pope Benedict XVI has elevated the  Ukrainian Catholic Church in Great Britain from the status of Apostolic Exarchate to an Eparchy, giving it the formal title of Eparchy of the Holy Family.  

The Eparchy's first Bishop-Eparch will be Hlib Lonchyna, who in 2009 was installed as  Apostolic Administrator and then in 2011 elevated to become the fifth Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainian Catholics in Great Britain.

Commenting on the announcement, AUGB President Zenko Lastowiecki said that the Association of Ukrainians is delighted by the news and wishes the new Eparchy and it Bishop-Eparch God's Grace and Blessings.

An official communique has been released by the Eparchy.
