AUGB World Cup 2018 Campaign

The World Cup in 2018 was awarded to Russia.

Some MPs have already indicated that they feel Russia should not have the honour of hosting the World Cup due to the violation of international laws and agreements in the annexation of Crimea, and waging war in Eastern Ukraine. Despite this, there is limited active support from MPs, many claiming that sport and politics should not mix and that this is a matter for FIFA.

AUGB is launching a campaign for MPs /MEPs to be more active in their support for Russia to be stripped of hosting the World Cup in 2018. This initial stage of the campaign focuses on the safety of supporters, particularly Ukrainian and also those from Poland and the Baltic States, a number of whom are UK citizens. The UK Government has a duty of care to its citizens, and we believe that the safety aspects of the World Cup will help persuade MPs / MEPs to be stronger in their opposition to Russia being allowed to host the World Cup in 2018.

AUGB's campaign site has been set up to allow you to email your MP / MEP quickly and easily. Simply follow this link to the campaign website, click on the 'Email your MP / MEP' tab and follow the instructions.
